The Academy of Human Resource Development (AHRD) Conference traces its roots to a visionary collaboration between the Professor’s Network of the American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) and the University Council for Research on HRD. Recognizing the need to advance HRD scholarship and practice, these groups came together to create a dedicated platform for research, dialogue, and innovation.
Officially founded on May 7, 1993, with R. Wayne Pace as its first president, AHRD was established to foster the systematic study of HRD theories and practices, disseminate knowledge, and bridge the gap between research and real-world application. Over the years, the conference has grown into a premier gathering for scholars, practitioners, and industry leaders, shaping the evolution of HRD on a global scale.
As we look ahead to AHRD Tokyo 2026 at Toyo University, the conference continues its tradition of driving progress, fostering collaboration, and exploring new frontiers in HRD. This milestone event in Tokyo will serve as yet another catalyst for innovation, knowledge exchange, and transformative change in the field.
